Our Guide to Choosing Your Perfect Furnishing Fabric

Choosing the perfect fabric to compliment your home can be a difficult decision. There are so many options to choose from, and if working to a budget the cost per metre will be an important factor. The decision should be made on what you like - think about the colours that you are naturally drawn to.

Take inspiration from something in your home that you love - this could be a piece of furniture, your favourite rug or a painting. Once you have decided the item or items that you would like your fabric to compliment, select fabrics to sit with these items. You could pick out the colours from an artwork and base your fabric choices on this palette for example. At McAlister Textiles we offer a swatch service for all of our fabrics as we understand that sometimes it can be difficult to match colours from a computer screen, to the piece of furniture, carpet or fabric in your home.

Our in-house designers can also help with your selection process. If you send us a picture via email of your furniture or a cutting of the carpet or wallpaper you are wanting to coordinate with, we can send you a selection of fabric samples for your consideration.

Once you have received your samples we suggest that you view them in the room where you intend to use them. Attach to the wall and leave them there for a few days to allow you to see the textures and colours in both natural and artificial light. Eliminate the swatches that don't work perfectly with your existing decor or where the colour is not a good match. Gradually you will narrow down your options and you will find yourself naturally drawn to the one you prefer.

Once you have selected your fabric you have done the difficult part. Ordering from McAlister Textiles is simple. Visit our website and select your chosen products.
